About PHIN

What is PHIN?
PHIN is a Swiss-Vietnamese specialty coffee brand founded in January 2025 and based in Winterthur, Switzerland. The name comes from the phin — the traditional Vietnamese drip filter — which is the slow, meditative heart of how we brew. We bring authentic Vietnamese coffee, from delicate Arabica to bold Robusta, to Swiss homes and businesses.
What is PHIN's mission?
To bring the authentic taste and culture of Vietnamese coffee to Swiss homes and businesses, one slow drip at a time — without compromising on quality, origin, or story.
Who is behind PHIN?
PHIN is run by three co-founders: Viet Ha (CEO, strategy & product), Maurice Macsay (CMO, sales & business development), and Jovin Forster (marketing & content). It's a small, hands-on team — when you email us, a real founder reads it.
Is PHIN a registered company?
Yes. PHIN KLG is registered as a Kollektivgesellschaft (general partnership) in the Swiss Commercial Register since 1 September 2025, UID CHE-446.665.092. You can find our full legal details on our Impressum page.
Why don't I see VAT on my order?
PHIN is currently below the Swiss VAT registration threshold (CHF 100,000 in annual revenue), so we're not VAT-registered yet. This is normal for a young, small business and not a sign anything's wrong with your order.
Can I buy PHIN coffee in stores?
Not yet — for now we're direct-to-consumer only through this website. Retail is a future goal for us.
Where can I follow PHIN?
You can find us on Instagram and TikTok at @phinkafich, and on Facebook as PHIN.

Our Coffees

What coffees do you sell?
Three single-origin Vietnamese coffees, each with its own character: Hanoi Haze (100% Arabica, smooth and floral), Da Lat Dawn (60% Robusta / 40% Arabica, balanced), and Saigon Drip (100% Robusta, bold and intense).
Tell me about Hanoi Haze
100% Arabica with tasting notes of floral, caramel, and milk chocolate. Our smoothest, most aromatic cup — great for pour-over, Phin filter, or a slow espresso morning.
Tell me about Da Lat Dawn
A 60% Robusta / 40% Arabica blend with tasting notes of tropical fruit, hazelnut, and cinnamon zest. Inspired by the cool highland mornings of Đà Lạt — balanced, with body and a touch of sweetness. Works well as espresso or Aeropress.
Tell me about Saigon Drip
100% Robusta with tasting notes of dark chocolate, caramel, and roasted almond. Our boldest, most intense coffee — the classic choice for cà phê sữa đá (Vietnamese iced milk coffee).
What does "single origin" mean here?
Every PHIN coffee is sourced from Vietnam — we don't blend in beans from other countries. Da Lat Dawn and Saigon Drip mix Robusta and Arabica varietals, but all the beans themselves are Vietnamese.
What's the difference between Arabica and Robusta?
Arabica (like our Hanoi Haze) tends to be smoother, lighter, and more aromatic. Robusta (like our Saigon Drip) is bolder, more intense, and higher in caffeine — it's also what gives traditional Vietnamese coffee its signature strength and pairs beautifully with condensed milk.
What is cà phê sữa đá?
Cà phê sữa đá is Vietnamese iced milk coffee — strong Phin-brewed coffee mixed with sweetened condensed milk and poured over ice. It's one of the classic ways to enjoy Vietnamese coffee, and Saigon Drip is our top pick for it.
How should I drink my coffee?
However you like — but three traditional ways are: black (straight from the Phin), iced, or as cà phê sữa đá (iced with condensed milk).

Brewing & Products

What is a Phin filter?
The Phin is the traditional Vietnamese drip filter — a slow, meditative brewing tool that sits directly on your cup. No machine, no pods, just a strong, aromatic cup in a few minutes. Ours is reusable aluminium, made in Vietnam by PHINOI, with a simple 4-piece assembly: base plate, chamber, gravity press insert, and lid.
What grind options do you offer?
Whole beans, Medium (for filter/V60), Medium-fine (for Phin/Aeropress), and Fine (for espresso) — choose the one that matches how you brew.
What sizes do your coffees come in?
200g, 500g, and 1000g bags. Our 100g size is reserved for free samples and the Starter Kit — it isn't sold on its own.
How long does the coffee stay fresh?
Every bag has a shelf life of 12 months from the roast date, so you've got plenty of time to enjoy it at your own pace.
What's included in the Starter Kit?
One Vietnamese Phin filter plus a 100g sampler of all three coffees (Hanoi Haze, Da Lat Dawn, Saigon Drip), in the grind of your choice. It's the easiest way to taste your way through the range and find your favourite.
Which coffee should I start with?
Hanoi Haze if you like it light and floral. Da Lat Dawn if you want a balanced everyday cup. Saigon Drip if you like it bold — or if cà phê sữa đá is the goal.
