Arabica or Robusta? The Difference in Vietnamese Coffee

Two beans, two characters. We explain what separates Arabica from Robusta — and which PHIN coffee matches your taste.

Vietnam mainly grows two coffee species: Arabica in the cool highlands around Da Lat, and Robusta in the lower, warmer regions of the central highlands. The two taste completely different — and PHIN uses both deliberately, rather than committing to just one.

The Difference at a Glance

Growing Altitude

Arabica grows at cooler, higher elevations (e.g. Da Lat), while Robusta thrives in the lower, warmer and more humid regions of Vietnam.

Caffeine Content

Robusta contains roughly twice the caffeine of Arabica, giving it the bold, intense character that defines the Phin filter.

Flavour

Arabica is more floral and mild, Robusta tastes darker, more chocolatey and bolder — often with a nutty note.

Why Not Both?

PHIN deliberately blends Robusta and Arabica in Da Lat Dawn, combining Robusta's strength with Arabica's elegance. That gives you three completely different characters within one brand.
