Halloween is not a Vietnamese holiday. Black sesame, though, is a Vietnamese flavour: mè đen turns up in the warm sweet soup chè mè đen and in the sesame sweets sold at the market. So for October we put together two things that suit the long autumn evenings: black sesame and dark Robusta.

Our October glass

Cà phê mè đen is a charcoal-grey black sesame cream over ice, with Saigon Drip from the phin floating on top. Nutty, sweet and about as dark as coffee gets. It takes around ten minutes, and the full recipe is here: black sesame iced coffee.

You need Saigon Drip, a phin filter, black sesame paste (or toasted black sesame, finely ground), sweetened condensed milk, milk and ice.

If you make the glass, show us on Instagram: @phinkafich.
